Introducing the Benefits of an Automated Shading System – Our new RIBA-approved CPD

We’re delighted to confirm that our latest CPD, ‘Introducing the Benefits of an Automated Shading System,’ has received RIBA approval.

The presentation becomes the second of our CPD’s to receive the accreditation this year, following on from our External Shading Systems in October, and is our third RIBA-approved CPD.

How automated shading systems can impact sustainability

Firstly, we explain the impact automation has on sustainability by discussing six key topics and using a Guidehouse study to reiterate the points made.

The presentation also identifies how automation can positively impact a building’s NABERS rating and help architects achieve BREEAM and WELL accreditations.

What makes a smart system and why is it better?

The next section of the CPD delves into the make up of an automated shading system.

Here, we compare a smart SMI system to a more traditional motorised system and outline how automation can provide control over 11 different areas.

Specification considerations

With a myriad of systems and configurations available when it comes to automated shading systems, the third section of the CPD discusses four key specification considerations:

• The level of integration compared to other systems
• The method of user operation
• The level of automation
• Health and safety considerations
