Our team pick their project of 2023
As another busy and challenging year draws to a close, we asked a few members of our team to pick their favourite project from the last 12 months.
From fantastic locations to technically challenging jobs, here are a few of the jobs that really stood out for them.
Richard Reeves, Estimator – Project: Arding & Hobbs
Arding & Hobbs would be my favourite project this year. We originally quoted it at the end of 2021 and it went through multiple changes before (and after) we secured the project. A lot of hard work went on in Sales to secure this one, backed up by Lloyd Palmer doing an excellent job on the Project Management.
The final look of the curtains was really impressive, very pleased that years of effort ended with a good project.
Dan Voller, Specification Manager – Project: McKinsey & Company
McKinsey and Co. for me. Very specific requirement for maximum acoustic curtains to ‘seal off’ an event space. Curtains needed to extend over a double height and mezzanine level, with the stack backs minimised to limit visual impact when they aren’t in use.
We had lots of discussion with McKinsey and Creation Baumann on how we could achieve their vision at an acceptable budget. We reached a good compromise with a mixture of motorised and manual acoustic dividers, due for install in early 2024.
A real collaboration between Sales and Projects to understand the requirement and be able to price accurately.
Lloyd Palmer, Project Manager – Project: Salvation Army
Difficult for me to choose as there were three that stood out. As Rich went for Arding & Hobbs, I’ll go for Salvation Army.
Was a real team effort on this to deliver the project snag free and with a beautiful finish. We supplied, manufactured and installed 310 manual roller blinds and 30 motorised systems using our BetaScreen® 90 1% and 3% fabrics, and large stage curtains.
Notable mention to 280 Bishopsgate as well. We worked with Overbury to deliver 280 manual roller blinds, 30 motorised rollers and 25 curtains, snag free.
Cameron Davie, Senior Estimator – Project: Project Edward
Tough one, this year has certainly had its challenges from the sales/estimating side of the fence! But for me I’d say Project Edward; technically challenging and diverse, with multiple products across six or so odd floors, with automated blinds to be linked back to a Crestron AV system.
But the icing on the cake was the opportunity to develop new supply chain partnerships and learn/ expand our product offering with Plectere Aline dividing screens from Filzfelt. Due for install in 2024.
Matt Kirkbride, Project Manager – Project: Arlington Business Park
My favourite has to be the first project I worked on from start to finish, installing 22 ShadeTech® RBL-C manual roller blinds. There wasn’t a huge amount of technical work or a high volume involved, but it was great to experience the project from survey through to installation and deliver the project snag free.
Ian King, Project Manager – Project: Confidential
This project was an interesting challenge and intriguing use of our DrapeTech curtains. With a vision of construction a calm, relaxing breakout space in the office, the client asked us to design, manufacture and install eight curtains on a combination of Silent Gliss 6465 and 6970 systems.
There were a host of details to work through, including the fixing details, and the job required a great deal of creative thinking from the Sales and Projects teams.
Bryn James, Fitout Business Development Manager – Project: Engine Room, Battersea Power Station
A brilliant install in an iconic London location!
We won’t give too much away for this project, as it’ll be coming to our website very soon…
