Waverley Sustainability Report: 2023 Figures

By: Oli Birch Category: News

In 2024, we started tracking our carbon emissions across Scopes 1, 2 and 3 for the previous year as part of our commitment to reducing our impact on the environment and to help us build a baseline figure to measure from.

In order to achieve this, we formed an internal sustainability team of nine who worked together with a sustainability consultant to map out a strategy forming of short-term and long-term goals.

Below, we’ve summarised this report and will document:

  • An overview of the plan
  • 2023 carbon footprint figures
  • Initial progress made in 2023
  • Information regarding our 2024 report

Overview

To reiterate, this is a carbon footprint baseline measurement for Waverley in 2023.

Alongside a sustainability consultant, our internal sustainability team have aligned our ESG strategy to four United Nations Sustainable Development Goals; a well-recognised framework that provides support on how to improve efforts across 17 areas in total.

The four UN SDGs are:

  • 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth
  • 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
  • 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production
  • 13 – Climate Action

The team have devised a strategy including key objectives, targets and a timeline for each SDG, and settled on these four in particular to ensure we can make measurable and achievable progress in the coming years.

2023 Carbon Footprint Figures

We have aligned our approach with a model that meets GHG Protocol standards, with a best-effort footprint based on the data available for 2023.

  • Scope 1 = 51.98 tCO2e
  • Scope 2 = 21.90 tCO2e
  • Scope 3 = 1409.41 tCO2e

Initial Progress in 2023

We helped architects and contractors achieve project-specific sustainability targets in 2023:

  • EBRD – Achieved BREEAM Outstanding and WELL Building Standard Platinum rating.
  • 150 Holborn – LEED Platinum, BREEAM Outstanding and SKA Gold.

In addition to this, the aluminium used in our products is made in the EU from 80% recycled content, while in 2023 we introduced a blind fabric range complete with fully recycled, recyclable and sustainable fabrics.

Our 2024 Sustainability Report

Our team are currently working on finalising the carbon footprint figures for 2024.

Once we have the information, we’ll be publishing a full report for 2024 that includes:

  • Carbon footprint figures
  • Key achievements and challenges
  • A detailed look at each UN SDG and our goals for each
  • Our timeline to 2030 and beyond
